Research time

The look I'm doing for my final assessment is quite strange even to me its creator, the Viking inspired helm with wolf and raven pieces, a fur cloak with a raven shrug all allude to a very different time and place. Though the look was overall created by me it does have some pieces that were inspired by Movies, magazines (comics) and television as well as history.

The helmet itself is created through inspiration that I got from the helmets that Vikings used called spangenhelm and in contrary to popular belief Viking helmets did not have horns. A spangenhelm is a helmet that had a metal band around the head and then 4 pieces of metal or leather joining at the top with a eye piece and a long nose piece which may seem useless but actually protected the noise during fighting.

The wings come from more of a geeky side mainly the drawings of Thor from the original Marvel comics created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, the original Thor had a helmet much like the Vikings (obviously because Thor is a Norse god) with silver wings coming off the side of his helmet, I love the look of the wings on the helmet because to me it sort of is a link to his father Odin the King of Asgard and the God you normally see with the ravens. (Fun fact the Ravens are called Huginn and Muninn)

The wolf parts are a link to another Norse God I wanted to do originally but decided not to in the end, this God is called Fenrir and he is a giant wolf who is the son of Loki there are many stories to do with Fenrir but I still wanted to do a little homage to the wolf.

The cloak of feathers and fur is inspired by the Night's watch from the television show and books of Game of Thrones, I loved the look it gave on screen and with the idea that I had I believe it will work well for the overall look,

The idea for the tattoos came from another television show called Vikings which is on the History channel and showcase some pretty awesome tattoos and wardrobe that definitely sparks ideas for my final piece,

The Berserker element came from watching yet another television show called Teen Wolf when they did Berserkers, I really fell in love with the look they had going overall and it definitely helped this idea I had grow.

When researching into the makeup I wanted something on the face as the body will be covered with various tattoos so I started to look into war/ tribal based makeup.

Some of the images I liked were ones like these:

I really love how impactful the makeup looks even being so simple and I think it will work well with my model who has darker skin especially since I will do blue instead or red. The tattoos I will do in copper and blue to fit in with the scheme and to bounce of the models skin.
