Lets talk about kits.

I thought I would do something a bit different,  I thought I would show you my kit and write my opinions on it.

Health and Safety Products
As you can see in the picture above I have a hand sanitiser, Micellar Water (in the little spray bottle) and Inglot Duraline.  I like this brand of sanitiser from the body shop because it smells nice and not like the alcoholic smelling ones you get everywhere else and its got a nice travel size bottle so its easy to store in your kit. Micellar Water is a essential in my kit, I use it when I'm using Aqua paints and also to cleanse the face before doing makeup because it makes sure all the dirt and any makeup residue is off before we begin and it is also suitable for sensitive skin which is always a good thing. The last thing is a essential it is Inglots Duraline this product is used to revive any eyeliner pot that has gotten cracked and dry or turn loose pigments into eyeliners or eyeshadows its is a multi use product and is absolutely essential for any makeup artist.

Face Products

Foundation,

In our kit we have MAC Face and Body Foundation which is a light coverage more natural looking foundation on the skin in the shades C1, C3, C4, N7 and N9 which is a good range of colours to age in any kit because it covers many types of skin tones and doesn't feel heavy on the skin and any colour that you don't have can be mixed up till you have the correct shade for the skin you are working on.
The other foundation we got is MAC Full Coverage Foundation which as the name suggests is a more heavy type of foundation personally I don't usually like to use too much because I find if you use too much it can look quite heavy and caked onto the skin, but it mixes well with other colours and is a good product to have in your kit if you want a more pigmented coverage on the skin. The colours I have in my kit are NC15, NW25, NW35 and NW45.

Concealer
The main pallet we use in our kits for concealing is the Dermacolor Palette which has multiple shades called D1, D2, D3, D4, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, D32, D13, D14, D15 and D16 these can  be used for concealing dark circles, scars, tattoos, birth marks and eyebrows in theatre it is a essential in any kit to have because of its wide range of uses.

The other concealing palette I have is the Crown Concealer Palette, this palette once again has many shades to choose from and includes many colour corrector shades which are essential to have in a kit and also a wide range of concealers for any skin tone. When I originally purchased this palette I didn't have high hopes because it's from a company that sell Makeup brushes but I was surprised by the quality and the pigmentation of the palette and now it is a essential in my kit which shows you should never judge a palette by its brand.

Highlighter and Prep Spray

In our kits and the main highlighter we use is the MAC strobe cream which is a highly pigmented cream that provides highlight but it is best to dab this product onto the skin with your finger as I found using a brush can sometime leave the underneath makeup looking streaky. I would also recommend not to use this product on darker skin as it can make darker skin look ashy which is not a good look but otherwise I quite like the strobe cream.
The other highlighter I have is a drug store highlighter from MUA and its from their MUA Luxe collection and is just called Highlight Shimmer this is a beautifully pigmented highlight stick that can be used straight from the container which I would not recommend as a makeup artist as its unhygienic but scrape some out using a spatula and then with a brush or a clean finger dab it onto a skin for a beautiful shine to the skin.
In this picture I also have shown my MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ Spray, I use this just before I start any makeup look as it adds moisturises the skin and creates a barrier between the skin and the makeup. I would recommend this as it drys quickly and it gives the skin a little refresh before doing the makeup.

Face Powders

In this photo you can see 4 little tubs of powders, these are the Ben Nye powders in the shades Super White, Fair, Ebony and Banana powder. I like these powders because their light weight on the skin but stop any makeup becoming creased and dripping away throughout the day. These are also only some of the powders we were given but these are the ones I manly use in class at the moment and they work well for the job.

Multi use face palette

These two palettes are from PAM (Precious About Makeup) and they are called Multi Use Palette by Morag Ross and Foundation Palette by Mandy Gold. I haven't had much use out of these palettes but I do like their size and I like how the foundation palette is suitable for darker skin tones which is unusual to see in a palette for foundation. I think you get quite a lot of product for your money and a good selection of tones and shades. I can't wait to use them and get a feel for them but from what Ive seen so far from these palettes is impressive their colour seems true to palette and the pigmentation is really good.

Lipstick:

We have 3 MAC lip palettes containing 6 shades each. The three palettes I have are called Editorial Reds, Preferred Pinks and Select Plums.

In the first palette that you see it is called Preferred Pinks, this palette contains the shades,

  • Pretty Please
  • Please Me
  • Lovelorn
  • Creme De La Femme
  • Show Orchid
  • Violetta
The second palette you see is called Select Plums, this palette contains the shades,
  • Twig
  • Captive
  • Verve
  • Amorous
  • Hang up
  • Cyber
The third palette you see is called Editorial Reds, this palette contains the shades,
  • Lady Danger
  • On Hold
  • Russian Red
  • Mac Red
  • Ruby Woo
  • Dare You
I quite like the presentation that these lipsticks are presented in and also the amount you get in each palette and the range of colours that you get in these 3 palettes as you get 18 shades and any shade you don't have you can easily mix the colours you do have and create a new shade. They also would work as cheek tints/blush if you were really stuck for a colour on the cheeks that you didn't have in your kit.
The pigmentation on these shades is really good and remains true to colour. They also don't feel dry on the lips and the colour is long lasting. I would definitely recommend these palettes for anyones kits because there a good size and fit quiet nicely in the kit bag without taking up too much room.

Eyeshadows
I have many eyeshadow pallets so lets get started,

Ben Nye glam eyeshadow palette contains 12 eyeshadow shades called Shell, Au Naturelle, Cobblestone, Smokey Taupe, Graphite, Twilight Blue, Mink Stole, Coco Brown, Black Brown, Brownberry, Eggplant and Black. This is a wide range of shades that can be used for many looks but are really good for period looks and filling in eyebrows as all the colours are matte and quite pigmented which is what you want and while the palette is quite big you do get quite big sizes of each eyeshadow which is what makes the palette worth the money. So if you got the room in your kit get this palette it will be invaluable to you if you like doing eyebrows and period looks.

The next palettes I'm going to talk about are the palettes from Makeup Revolution these  are drug store palettes and absolutely incredible. I have also included their blush palette as well with the eyeshadow palettes. The palettes that are shown are the Salvation Palette in Give them Nightmares, Iconic Pro 2, New- Trals vs Neutrals, Affirmation and Sugar and Spice (Blush Palette). The reason why I like this brand so much is because their palettes are affordable and yet have brilliant pigmentation that blends really nicely and also their packaging isn't cheap and doesn't look like it's a drugstore brand it looks and feels branded without the price tag I really love their collections and would recommend them as a cheap alternative to the higher branded palettes because sometimes drug store works better than high end.

The final palettes I'm going to talk about is the Urban Decay Shadowbox palette and the Maybelline The Nudes palette. The Urban Decay Shadowbox palette is a great mini palette that has 12 slightly shimmery shadows, that aren't over shimmery and very well pigmented, personally I like to use the palette to add more shimmer to an eye look over a matte eyeshadow as they blend really nicely with other shadows. The other palette The Nudes is another one of my favourites first because of its size, it doesn't take up much room in the kit and also the fact that it has the most basic eyeshadow colours that you could need and all colours are nicely pigmented, blend well and also if you have difficulty thinking up what colours to go together on the back of this palette they have little diagrams explaining what shades work together and how to correctly place them on the eye which is great for people who are only learning how to blend eyeshadows.

Eyeliners and Pigments

At the moment I have three gel eyeliners in my kit, I have MAC Blacktrack, Inglot Black and Kryolan White. I prefer the colour and longevity of Inglot eyeliner over MAC Blacktrack though I like Blacktrack for doing smoky eyes as it blends nicely into the skin and theirs more time to work with it.  I have yet to try the white eyeliner but it looks interesting and I'm looking forward to the day I get to use it. I also like to use the gel eyeliners to do things like black lipstick , interesting eyeliner around the face and of course the classic black liner. I prefer the Inglot liner to the MAC but its all down to personal choice.

The pigments I have is MAC in the shade Vanilla and NYX in the shade Penny Lane, I like pigments because they can add just a little bit of sparkle to anything. They are multiple use products you can add them to lipstick to add sparkle to the lip on top of eyeshadow for added shimmer and as highlighter there an essential in the kit bag.

Eyeshadow and Powder Palette

This is my MAC Eyeshadow and powder palette, this palette has 18 eyeshadows and 6 face powders, I like how this palette has all the essential shades you would need to create any eye makeup look and a good range of powders for any skin tone and look that were creating . I'm not a huge fan of some of the pigmentation of some of the shadows and the divider to separate the two doesn't come up easily so you end up getting nail marks in you powders so its a little unhygienic but its a good palette to have in my kit as it has multiple choices for colour.

Lip/eye pencil rolls

These are my lip and eye pencils which I keep in this very handy easy to clean pencil roll from a company called EMJ. In the roll I have my Kryolan pencils that can be used to outline the lips or the white can be used to outline the face for prosthetic purposes, I think these pencils can be quite hard on the skin the first couple of times you use them but they soften out and last a long time due to their size and the pigmentation on these pencils is really good. The next couple of pencils are from MAC I have their eyeliner pencil in Ebony, this pencil is soft when used on the skin, has got good pigmentation and can also be used as a lip liner if you need to do black lips, the pencil after the eyeliner pencil is the eyebrow pencil in Lingering, I have yet to use this product but from what Ive seen its quite fin so perfect for drawing on hairs for models/clients that need a little extra hair in the brow and as its a wax based product it should be long lasting and the colour seems to be quite natural which is perfect for when doing brow hair.
The pencils after the eyebrow pencil are MAC lip pencils in Nude, Ruby Woo, Spice and Plum this is a good selection  to have as it covers the nude lip, the red lip, the more plum lip and the more brown darker lip, I like theses lip pencils they have good pigmentation, don't feel drying on the lips and glide on really easy, the one thing I don't like is their size I don't think they would last long if I was using them everyday on a job.
After that I have miscellaneous collection of colour pencils that I like and don't use too often so I won't go into any detail about them.

The everything roll

This is where I keep any bulky single items like jumbo eye pencils, eye primer, lash glue and so on and so forth, this is the EMJ Gloss roll and its amazing. This roll keeps everything organised and prevents anything going missing in my kit. All the products in here I use quite often except for the MAC Lipglass because I find it very sticky and also it dries out the lips in my opinion I rather use vaseline or carmex it does the same job. I also have a brown and black mascara in my kit because sometimes you want a more natural colour on the lips and other times you may need the full on black lash mascara.

So there it is my kit in full and my opinion on the various items in it. I like my kit I thing I have a good range of colour and brands in it and it does the job it needs to do.
